New ideas

Some character sketches for my new idea, instead of writing my own story and focusing so much on that, and looking at other children's books I had the idea of creating an ABC book of animals having two kids dress up as the animals, and do things the animal would do, maybe with a few fun facts. (not too sure yet)

I thought I'd have a go... Don't Panic!

I've submitted an entry to the 'Nature' themed Don't Panic Posters competition. The voting ends on Sunday, but I thought it's worth a try. I think I'll have to get at least 12 votes to be in for the judging... so please vote for my poster :) ... only if you like it of course.

The links are below, they take you straight to my poster. You only have to provide a few details to register before you can vote.

Thanks guys, see you soon!

cards arrived!

Cards arrived today two days before they were meant to- really quick considering I only ordered them on Thursday evening. Really recommend Moo for future use- good quality for only a tenner and without any hidden charges for multiple images or double sided printing. They allow up to 50 different images and the only drawback is that the reverse image has to be the same for each card. They've also given me 10% off if I want to get postcards printed with them. Overall they seem pretty ideal- they seem set up for the kind of thing I wanted rather than catering to big businesses like the majority of printers..

Final Business Cards!

They've been sent off to print so these are the FINAL FINAL ones. I figured I'd have a range for different circumstances- two slightly daft for giving to other artists/individuals who still look like they have a sense of humour in tact, one with an example of my comics, one with an example of my other illustration work. The back is the same on all of them.

I'm getting them done with moo.com who offer 50 for a tenner (more like 13/14 after postage is added). I've seen other cards printed there and thought the quality/paper was pretty decent- sort of semi-matte-semi-gloss satin finish and fairly thick stock. Also, moo was one of the only places I found who were honest about their pricing- lots of other sites offered similar deals but when you read the fineprint there were LOTS of restrictions- such as only one-sided, including the printer's logo, or only having a very limited set of templates which you had to use. Also it was pretty standard for printers to charge over the odds for wanting to place your own artwork on rather than using their shoddy clipart. I'll post up the result when I get them through the post, but for the design process I will say Moo had wome very nice design tools which let you check and double check and edit the way your card would look in the flesh- giving warnings about cropping and ratio and loads of other potential pitfalls.

I'm trying to create a visual brand/identity with the the combination of fancy twiddly typography, strong black and white, and the inclusion of a little texture (the paper background)

Busyness cards

These are just some prototypes...I might work some colour onto them or something like that!

And are some really inspirational ideas for them...not sure how you'd actually make most of them!

Hand in...

Is it Monday we hand in...? its just when we were mistakenly in today Chiu said something about being in on Tuesday...and i'm confused o.o...So when are we handing our stuff in?

Help me decide (cards!)

(The upper section is the front, the lower section is the back of these)
So I'm faced with two potential approaches for my business cards at the moment- either sticking with fairly conventional snippets of my art (top) or an attempt at humour (bottom) I really wanted to see if I could get some feedback off people if possible! Personally at the moment I think the first looks better and better describes my aesthetic, but the second is potentially more memorable.

I just came across this and thought it was all amazing!

Sunday 4 January 2009

I have just stumbled apon this really cool site, a great resource for fairytales..

"SurLaLune Fairy Tales features 49 annotated fairy tales, including their histories, similar tales across cultures, modern interpretations and over 1,500 illustrations."

this would have been handy in the narrative sequence module last year!

Can anyone recommend a place to get decent quality prints of my work done?
anywhere that isn't gonna cost me a million pound is also good.
